Seventeen pieces of jewelry made in collaboration with Seismologist who worked on and published the 2013 Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis for the Groningen region and continued their research throughout 2014.
The type of earthquakes experienced in the Groningen region are induced through gas extraction (as opposed to, naturally occurring, tectonic earthquakes). Making the research process tentative and ever developing, with each step in their process shaping the parameters and the prognosis as a design born from a specific team of seismologists, in a specific time, within a specific political climate.
Each piece of jewelry is a scale model (1:250000) of an area sharing a seismic probability. They are pinned down by production boreholes that have been actively extracting gas within the past 10 years, and have backings of a sand composite, as the gas is extracted from the Rotliegend Sandstone.
